David Rofe QC
Legislative Council [Upper House] Candidate
His Aims are to:
Restore the Upper House to its traditional role as a House of review by objectively scrutinising all legislation that is introduced and passed by the Lower House.
Support a proactive Upper House that will be vigilant in monitoring and reporting to the public any actions and decisions of the Executive Government where necessary.
Ensure that the elected Government acts in accordance to its mandate in a manner that is fair and honest and in the public interest.
Expose any form of crime, corruption, anti-social behaviour and dishonesty and to ensure adequate funding and numbers of personnel for law enforcement bodies.
Safeguard the essence of democracy by maintaining the independence of the judiciary of this State and the division of Legislative, Executive and Judicial powers.
Press for the urgent formation of a Standing Committee of members of both Houses to consider solutions designed to:
- Encourage businesses and people to either re-locate to or remain in regional and rural areas by providing financial and social incentives thereby increasing employment and the expansion and subsequent economic prosperity in those areas.
- Make first home ownership more affordable in NSW for the younger generation with greater concessions in stamp duties and subsidising mortgage loan interest charges so as to provide greater security and confidence for their future.
- Ensure stringent monitoring and recording of donations to political parties and to members of Parliament from vested interests by making all donations completely transparent.
Support and encourage feasible schemes to come into fruition as a matter of utmost urgency, viz:
- A comprehensive water plan to alleviate the increasing water shortage throughout the State;
- Steps to combat and reduce the increasingly detrimental threats of global warming.
Press for the proper application of consolidated revenue by the elected Government so as to improve services in the areas of education, health care, environmental planning, policing, rail and transport.
Restore fair compensation to persons injured in the workplace and on the roads.
Press the elected Government to combine with other State Governments to persuade the Commonwealth Government to remove all self-funded retirees over the age of 65 from the incidence of taxation on their retirement incomes.
Press to ensure that in the future Public/Private Partnership such as the Cross-City Tunnel are transparent and in the interests of the State.
